BDx Data Centers has signed a power supply commitment with PT PLN for 1.2GW, allowing it to energise its AI data centres in Indonesia. PT PLN is the state power utility, and BDx says this is the largest such agreement for a data centre operator in the country.

A short history of BDx

Founded in 2019, BDx is headquartered in Singapore and has grown steadily over the years. According to a fact sheet shared by the company, its data centre journey began in 2020, when it took over SIN1 in Singapore from Telstra and brought HKG1 (5.7MW) and HKG2 (4MW) online.

In 2022, it acquired CGK1 (10MW) along with CGK2 and CGK3, before adding HKC8 (16MW) and a further six data centres from Indosat in 2023. By 2024, it had brought Phase 1 of its CGK site online with H100 GPUs.

Elsewhere, BDx also runs several operational data centres in China and Taiwan, ranging from 4.8MW to 12MW.

Gunning for AI

While BDx's data centres are relatively small, the company has ambitions in AI. In 2024, it unveiled plans for a 500MW AI data centre at CGK4, and the 1.2GW of power it has just secured will allow it to realise that vision.

According to its press release, 788 MVA will go to CGK4, around 60 MVA to CGK3A, and 385 MVA to CGK5. As with other power deals inked between data centre operators and utilities, delivery is likely to be staggered and supplied as deployments are rolled out.

It is not yet clear whether the necessary grid connections and power substations are in place. If they are not, it will probably take another one to two years to upgrade or install them.
