To narrow the gap between CII operators and state-sponsored attackers.

Another year, another chance to attend SICW and GovWare. Here's what I learned on Day 1 today - including what the Singapore Government announced.

Singapore to share classified threat intelligence

The bombshell this morning is probably Minister K. Shanmugam's SICW announcement that the government is making a "significant shift" in its approach with critical infrastructure operators.

It will now share classified threat intelligence with CII operators. Action will also be taken against cyber attackers here.

The first is a major move that underscores the Singapore government's efforts to narrow the gap between CII operators and well-resourced state-sponsored attackers.

In case you wondered, data centre operators are not considered CII today. However, the forthcoming Digital Infrastructure Act is expected to cover data centre and cloud operators and stipulate mandatory resilience and security requirements.

What I learned about microsegmentation

It is almost customary now to drop by ViewQwest every year. This time, I hosted a small fireside chat with Zero Network's Joe Arcuri and ViewQwest's Peter M., who shared about microsegmentation.

Here's what I learned.

The typical business doesn't wake up one morning and decide they want a security transformation. They just want to better protect themselves and their customers. And it's entirely possible to do cybersecurity without the complexity.

And no, microsegmentation won't solve all your problems. Businesses will still need firewalls for north-to-south protection, says Joe.

So what can microsegmentation replace? It's about moving from a traditional perimeter strategy to minimising the blast radius of a cybersecurity breach. It can replace legacy technologies like VPNs, VLANs, and sandboxes.

And oh, Joe says Zero Network has a 100% take-up rate from businesses that run a pilot. And only a VM needs to be set up within the network to work.

Visit GovWare 2025

If you haven't gone down yet, you need to visit GovWare. The quality of the sessions is exceptional. Yes, there is some implicit selling. But the team vetted the topics thoroughly, and I learned something in all the sessions I attended.
