Equinix completes phase 2 of KL1 data centre
Adds 450 cabinets to the 6-storey facility.

Equinix has completed Phase 2 of its KL1 data centre, less than a year after starting operations in Malaysia. Soon, it'll have 4 data centres in the country.
KL1 data centre
Here's what we know about Phase 2 of its KL1 data centre.
- Located at Cyberjaya in Kuala Lumpur.
- 450 cabinets added.
- 6-storey facility.
According to Equinix, its KL1 and JH1 data centres are interconnected with its existing data centre campus in Singapore.
In its press release today, Equinix reminds us that its upcoming entries in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand will be similarly interconnected.
Two + Two = Four
What the release doesn't mention is that Equinix is working on two other data centres in Malaysia.
- In an interview with the New Straits Times today, Equinix MD of Malaysia confirmed his company is in the early planning stage for KL2 data centre, first announced in July 2024.
- Last year, I wrote about the unannounced JH2 data centre in Johor, within one kilometre of JH1. This was chanced upon by Gary Goh, who snapped a photo of the project signboard.
It's worth noting that KL2 is substantially larger than KL1. Given Equinix's strategy in Malaysia, it stands to reason that JH2 will be similarly larger.
When KL2 and JH2 are completed, Equinix will have a total of four data centres in two clusters: one cluster in Johor, and another in Kuala Lumpur.
Very rapid growth, considering that Equinix had no operational data centres in Malaysia at the beginning of 2024.
Strong returns
And yes, at a gathering of senior data centre leaders this week, one compliment I heard about Equinix was how good it is at driving strong returns from its data centres despite its premier positioning.
