Singapore-headquartered Empyrion Digital today announced its 200MW data centre campus in Malaysia. And yes, they have power.

Another day in Johor

Empyrion Digital has secured regulatory approval for both the Electricity Supply Agreement (ESA) and Data Centre Task Force (DCTF) application for its first data centre campus in Malaysia.

The MY1 Johor Data Centre Campus will be developed on a 34.9-acre site in phases. When fully built-up, the campus will have 200MW of capacity.

Here's what we know for now: the campus is targeting RFS in Q4 2026, will comprise five 40MW buildings, and will use liquid and air-cooling.

145MW of initial power allocation from TNB has been secured with energisation targeted for September 2026. It is understood that more can be accessed to support the full campus.

According to Empyrion, customers will gain future access to secure and diverse routes linking MY1 to its data centre in Singapore.

Going green

Empyrion will also procure green energy for MY1 through long-term PPAs. This doesn't sound that impressive by itself.

However, I know Empyrion are strong proponents of green data centres, often going beyond what other operators do. So I'm personally curious what they have planned for MY1.

A growing player

A portfolio company of Seraya Partners, Empyrion Digital has grown rapidly by building new data centres since its acquisition of SG1 Dodid Data Centre in Singapore. Locations to date include Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, and Bangkok.

Empyrion Digital knows a thing or two about navigating moratoriums. In South Korea, they secured the site for their Gangnam data centre just after power became available.

In this case, Empyrion says it has secured relevant approvals to needed resources, including water, though this is subject to announced rollout timelines.

Hopefully, I'll have the chance to tour the initial phase of the completed data centre in 2026.
