Edgnex announces Jakarta data centre with 'projected' 144MW
Scant details disclosed, though.

Last week, Damac-backed data centre operator Edgnex announced that is building a 144MW data centre in Jakarta. Is the market ready for this capacity?
144MW in Jakarta
This is the second data centre by Edgnex in Indonesia and follows a planned 19.2MW data centre at MT Haryono in Jakarta - announced last year.
The acquisition of the land for this new data centre was completed in March 2025.
- Future projected capacity of 144 MW.
- Total investment of US$2.3 billion.
- Will deploy high-density AI racks.
- Target PUE of 1.32
No other details are offered, and the location of the data centre wasn't disclosed.
Is the market ready?
My trip to Jakarta in May gave me an updated perspective of the vibrant data centre market in Indonesia.
For sure, it's gone a long way from the "server room" style data centres when I started covering data centres a decade ago - some are even built in residential houses!
As I wrote in May, there’s a strong sense of optimism around the country’s digital infrastructure given Indonesia's massive population and high mobile penetration.
But 144MW is a lot of capacity.
Moreover, I also learned that the Indonesia market can be a tough nut to crack. Customers prefer spreading their workloads out and are extremely price sensitive.
From planning to completion
Of course, data centres typically take years to build up, which offers operators plenty of room to drag out construction phrases (to sell the capacity).
In this case, Edgnex's release merely pegged Dec 2026 as the "expected to be ready for service" with no mention of capacity available at that date.
And yes, I'm aware of a data centre operator (not Edgnex) that keeps touting triple-digit MW figures despite being constrained to a much lower capacity.
'Instant' data centres
On the other hand, it's worth noting that Southeast Asia does have some of the fastest build times on the planet.
For instance, BrightRay's Johor data centre was completed in just 8 months, while SMX01 which had its groundbreaking in March will be operational by next year.
What about you? What are some phenomenal build times that you have heard of?
