Digital Realty enters Malaysia with TelcoHub1 acquisition
Digital Realty enters Malaysia with connectivity, adjacent land, and an experienced team.
Digital Realty today announced its entry into Malaysia with the acquisition of CSF Advisers, owners of the TelcoHub1 data centre. Here's why this is notable.
Highly networked
The acquisition of CSF Advisers will see TelcoHub1, an operational 1.5MW data centre located in Cyberjaya, added to Digital Realty's portfolio.
Digital Realty says TelcoHub1 is one of Malaysia's largest dark fibre interconnect hubs, with more than 6,000 cores of regional and long-haul fibre landing in this facility.
It hosts over 40 network service providers, including access to key platforms such as AWS, Google, MY-IX, and DE-CIX ASEAN.
The TelcoHub1 data centre will be integrated into PlatformDIGITAL, Digital Realty's global data centre platform.
Entry into Malaysia
While TelcoHub1 is more of an Internet Exchange Point (IXP), Digital Realty has also agreed to acquire adjacent land that can support up to 14 megawatts of IT load.
This means Digital Realty can quickly build a new data centre that can tap into the incredible connectivity at TelcoHub1 from day one via a private fibre link.
In Southeast Asia, this strategy was first adopted by Equinix in Singapore, which built its SG3 data centre across a narrow road from the much older SG1 data centre.
It was an unusual strategy then, given concerns about geographical separation for resilience. Thinking has changed since, and this is widely practised today.
Crucially, Billy Lee Kok Chi, the Chairman and CEO of CSF Advisers, will join Digital Realty, together with his local leadership team and more than 40 skilled professionals.
Billy is an industry veteran who participated in the growth of Malaysia's data centre industry over two decades. His presence will undoubtedly give Digital Realty an edge.
Digital Realty says it plans to expand the local team over time to support future growth.
Southeast Asia play
The other notable development is how the move shows Digital Realty's intention to expand strongly into Southeast Asia.
Despite operating 19 data centres across Asia Pacific today, Digital Realty had only three data centres in Southeast Asia before 2025, all of them in Singapore.
This changed in 2025, when a joint venture with Bersama Digital Infrastructure Asia saw the addition of two data centres in Jakarta.
Digital Realty's entry today into Malaysia with TelcoHub1 will give it a strong presence across Southeast Asia, along with an experienced and cohesive team for rapid growth in Malaysia.
