BW Digital's subsea cable to land directly at Digital Realty's SIN12

The 50km NCC subsea cable will deliver sub-2ms latency between Batam and Singapore.

Nongsa Changi Cable System (NCC), a new 50km subsea system between Batam in Indonesia and Singapore, will land at Digital Realty's SIN12 data centre at Loyang Close. The subsea cable will connect Batam and Singapore with an ultra-low latency network.

This is the first submarine cable to land directly in Batam's Nongsa Digital Park, the location of a growing number of data centres including DayOne and Golden Digital Gateway.

According to developer BW Digital, NCC will deliver more than 1.6 petabits per second with lower than 2 millisecond latency to Singapore. It will also integrate with Digital Realty's PlatformDIGITAL data centre platform.

Upcoming data centre

As I wrote in September, the NDP1 campus in Nongsa Digital Park will be ready for service with 24MW of IT capacity for its first phase by Q1 2026.

NDP1 consists of two buildings with up to 36 data halls. According to the latest information, it will have a capacity of 144MW and liquid cooling capabilities.

As I wrote earlier, NDP1 will support 20kW to 40kW with air cooling and 140kW with direct liquid cooling (DLC).

I've observed previously that data centre operators in the region are hardly going "all in" on liquid cooling. Instead, they are either building limited capacity or designing for readiness, so facilities can be quickly retrofitted when needed.

Batam data centres

I've been watching Batam with interest. Part of SIJORI, it offers something different: proximity to Singapore in an alternate country.

When pooled, the massive data centre capacity and connectivity in Johor, Batam and Singapore are on par with the largest data centre markets globally.

Looking forward to visiting some Batam data centres in the year ahead.
